Lateral Blue is a four piece bluegrass band based in Nashville, Tennessee. They met at a bluegrass jam and immediately felt a sense of musical companionship. Each member comes from a different musical background and adds a unique point of view to the music. This group of young musicians incorporates styles of acoustic music into their repertoire which are adjacent to bluegrass, including western swing, jazz, and folk tunes.
The band is dedicated to creating high quality acoustic music. They can tailor performances for concerts and private events and draw from multiple styles of music to create a memorable music experience.
Caleb Edwards, originally from Indiana, has been playing mandolin since the age of 12. During her time at Belmont University she was introduced to bluegrass music and fell in love. She has previously toured with Michael and Jennifer McLain (of the McLain Family Band) and now spends her time with Lateral Blue and as a freelance musician in other styles including jazz, classical, and musical theater.
Laura Epling moved from West Virginia to Nashville in 2012 and earned her bachelor’s degree in commercial violin performance from Belmont University in 2016. There, she studied under Tammy Rogers-King, Buddy Spicher and Billy Contreras. She currently works as a full-time orchestrator’s assistant and, when she’s not stomping barefoot with Lateral Blue, continues to teach, record, and tour as a classical musician.
